Welcome to August, one of the windiest months of the year on the Highveld. Personally wind swept hair loses its appeal when my clean straightened hair looks filthy than ever filled with knots. Not to mention having hair stuck on my lips thanks to my lipgloss. Moral of the story, forget the lipgloss or tie-up your hair.
I start my count-down from day one of August to keep fighting the winter blues. I shouldn’t really complain about the winter’s here in Johannesburg. It doesn’t rain, the sky is a beautiful blue and it looks rather picturesque until you step out outside and feel the cold. Yes, I’m sissy during winter and thank my boots, vests and Woolies thermal leggings for getting through the cold days.

“If cold, thou shall snuggle and cuddle”
I should be admitting this at a hermit society “Hi my name is Nikita and I’m a winter hermit” but I’m unashamed of it. Instead of stepping into the cold of the night (which I sometimes do), I prefer to lie on the couch with my boyfriend and our dog Peanut under a snuggly blanket. Take advantage of the cold weather to catch-up on your favourite shows or rent DVDs with hot chocolate and popcorn on tap. Once the weather’s warm you won’t want to cuddle.
Laugh a bit
The dark mornings, chilly air and cold has me fed up with winter. To be honest I was bitching about winter from June 1st (winter sissy remember). Instead of shopping for cute summer dresses online, I look to Pinterest for my remedy. (If you haven’t signed up for it yet, then you best get at it. You’ll be addicted). It doesn’t matter how down and out I feel, looking through Humor category has me in tears from laughing so much. I even have my own Humour account.
Take a trip somewhere, anywhere.
To escape your glum attitude, try doing something different. Check out the Computicket for the latest gigs. Make a date and have an event or place to look forward to. This way I’m motivated to enjoy the bliss and the somewhat joy of winter. A cool night out is to venture into Jo’burg for the Night Market happening at Market on Main once a month. Try out the fresh, locally made home-grown food, I promise you won’t be sorry.
If you want to venture away from Jo’burg why not try the Lanseria or Hartbeespoort area.A few weeks ago my boyfriend spoiled me with a surprise trip for my birthday to the Lion Park in Lanseria. It was incredible to get up and personal with lion cubs.
