To say that you are fiercely loved is an understatement. Now as you turn 7 months old, you are the furthest thing from a meek child. You are a chatterbox of note, often we have conversations that now consist of “da da da”, squeals and giggles. You sometimes act shy when someone says hello to you and you snuggle your face into my chest.
This past month has been one of many adventures, and celebrations. Your first Christmas awakened the excited child in my soul. I can’t ever remember being this excited for Christmas Day! The family loved, spoiled and squeezed you to breathe in your pure joy and innocence. Reminding us all that the best gifts are not found under a Christmas tree.
Soon afterwards, us three were off to the coast for another family holiday with Tia, Tio and cousin Lorena. I caught picture perfect moments as the two of you would hold each other’s arms or hands. Now as you are both recognising one another, I wonder what secret messages you pass on to each other telepathically. Perhaps it’s your future endeavours with your cousin, I don’t know.
Your little eyes in pure wonder of your cousin as you stared at her. Until you realised that you could touch her and pulled her hair. Thankfully, no harm was done and no tears shed.
Speaking about tears, I held my breath in anticipation when we took you to the beach. The last time we were down at the beach, you didn’t enjoy the water as you screamed. To be fair it wasn’t the warmest time of the year either.
This time you loved every minute of it in your Wonder Woman costume. You loved the waves as your papa and I took turns playing with you in the sea. You are a true mer-baby! We placed on the sand and your feverishly kicked your legs as you soon realised the sand actually moved and was an object that you could touch. Within a few seconds you shoved your little chubby hands into the beach sand as you eagerly wanted to put a handful into your mouth but papa was faster than you so no mouthful of sand yet.
All was well throughout the holiday and we had great fun and made good memories!
With a new year, I’m trying to keep up with you as you grow up fast. You don’t keep still, just taking this photo was a challenge in itself. It seems as if you’ve accelerated your speed as you are now over sitting (that’s like so 2016!) and enjoy standing whilst pulling yourself up as you sit on someone’s lap.
I’ve also realised how quickly your soft, supple skin rejuvenates itself from a mosquito bite or a nail scratch. While I notice the rings under eyes darken and my eyes looking crinklier than normal when I smile. But that’s okay, I value every moment with you.
I now understand the value of time with you in my life and for that I ask to spend an eternity with you.
I love you my darling <3
Mama
