We were invited to indulge in movie nostalgia at the launch of The Eastgate Drive-In. The last time we stepped foot into a movie cinema was December 2019 so it was a refreshing welcome to enjoy a movie.
Eastgate Shopping Centre launched The Eastgate Drive-in situated on the center’s rooftop.
Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday starting from 1 April to 1 May 2021 with two screenings per evening at 6pm and 8pm.
For their premiere weekend, there was a combination of movie magic from classics like Jumanji and E.T. to modern-day marvels like The Greatest Showman.
We went to the screening of Ice Age, something Adriana had not watched before. She was excited that we’d be watching a movie in our car.
So how exactly does it work?
Movies for The Eastgate Drive-In are voted for on the Eastgate Facebook page.
Tickets are book through Quicket. You show your ticket at the entrance and you are shown to a designated spot. Booking is essential as there is a limit to 100 cars.
It’s R250 per car and you receive complimentary popcorn.
For additional snacks, you can order slush and more popcorn at the kiosk at the back.
What I thought is pretty cool are the options to order food. You are given a list of four restaurants, Cloud Dine, Spur, Steers and Debonairs. Once your order is ready, it is brought to the demarcated collection areas. You need to wear a mask and keep a safe distance.
As an outing, this scores 10 out of 10 for us. We had a great time out! It’s definitely something the whole family can do and even a date night idea.
We’ll definitely be back again.
