To my darling Adriana: Month 3

To my darling Adriana,

How are you three months already? Like how? That happened so quickly! I’m pretty much trying to avoid the fact that you have outgrown your newborn sized onesies. I’m in denial that I haven’t had the heart to pack it away yet. It just makes my heart a little sore that my baby girl is growing up so fast before my eyes.

I was thinking about the irony about time. While I was pregnant with you it felt like 9 months took forever but now that you’re here, time is flying by. Guess it’s true what they say, time flies while you’re having fun…

And how we have had fun this month.

We’ve been out and about. I think the older you get and the more comfortable I get about taking you out into the world, it’s become easier to do so.

We took our first family holiday down to the coast. I was hesitant about the holiday as we left the day after your vaccines so I was worried how you would feel. But the nasty jabs to your precious skin didn’t dampen your mood for our beach getaway. You lapped up the extra love, hugs and kisses from your aunty and uncle as they came along on our holiday. You can imagine how full the car was as we ensured that everything was packed. It was funny how the littlest person had the most luggage.

Mother Nature didn’t play her part too well with overcast cloudy days. So the itsy teensy swimming costume I bought you didn’t see the light of day. Don’t worry your pretty little mind, you still saw the vast grand ocean while I carried you against my chest.

We made sure that you felt the sand between your toes while waves crashed along the  shoreline. Your papa even put your tiny feet in the sea. As happy as you were, the sudden change in temperature against your toes, set off a wailing cry!

As much as we had to pack and do, it was a memorable holiday.

From your first holiday to outings with friends and your baby cousin, you’ve been such  a social butterfly. You hand out your smiles like precious gems, as your smile reaches your eyes and you show off your gummy smile.

It reminds me of a Roald Dahl quote, “If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely”. And lovely you are my baby, you are happiness personified as you melt hearts everywhere you go.

Speaking of Roald Dahl, every night before bedtime I read to you. As gibberish it might sound to you, it helps you fall asleep. Right now, we’re busy reading Roald Dahl’s BFG as per your papa’s suggestion.  He’s a big Roald Dahl fan.

One of the most amazing things about being your mama is how you pull me away from our regular day-to-day routine to show off something new. You’ve discovered your voice as you feverishly coo and gaga the day away as you “converse” with me.

Then a new first happened, an “Eskimo Kiss” brought up the joyful sound of your first laugh. It happened so quickly that I wanted you to do it again.  Then you did again and again tonight, while your papa gently swung you in his arms. What a sweet sound it was as I etched it to my memory. I wish I could bottle your giggle!

This is exactly what life is about my baby girl. The precious moments that are so sweet that you never want it to end. I always think that the best moments in life are the precious memories that aren’t captured behind a camera or a social media account but is fully appreciated in the moment that makes your heart swell. Together, we have experienced many of those this month.

I love you my darling <3

About Me:

Hi I'm Nikita.

Welcome to my corner of the online sphere. A place where we can be honest about mothering while trying to juggle life as working moms. As mothers, we worry about losing our identity, so let's find out together. With eight years of experience as a wordsmith, I'm never at a loss of words but maybe that's my Portuguese heritage coming through.

My heart swelled at the sight of Adriana’s joy. My heart swelled at the sight of Adriana’s joy.

She feels seen as a girl with T1D.

With her CGM, and insulin pump.

It’s one of the things that we work hard to instil in her, that she is “seen”, loved and that she should never feel embarrassed of her illness.

It’s her superpower to educate others and advocate for T1D.
