Review: Disney on Ice-Dream Big

Disney on Ice is back in the country with the latest production, Disney On Ice presents Dream Big. The production this year focuses on the leading princesses from your Disney favourites, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Princess and the Frog, Sleeping Beauty and more.

I was eager to see how this would be interpreted on the ice.

This year was my little one, Adriana’s first time watching Disney on Ice. She just turned two the day before opening night, so it was a big deal that she was attending!

I was nervous that it would be overwhelming for her, due to the length of the show and her age. However my little one took it in her stride and loved the show.

I’ve slowed introduced her to the Disney Princesses, and she is obsessed with Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Adriana’s reaction was priceless as her eyes widened as she watched her favourite Disney couple welcome fans to Disney on Ice.

As a Disney aficionado, I have to say that the show was nothing short of amazing!

I loved the Beauty and the Beast piece with my favourite princess, Belle. The skaters put on an incredible show with Be Our Guest.

Soon we went “Under the sea”, set sail on Prince Eric’s ship and met all of King Triton’s daughters. As the story goes, Ariel was missing of course. The attention to detail on the costume is impressive. I loved how Ursula came out sashaying on the ice with her slimy eels alongside her.

Without spoiling too much of the show, there’s snow, fire and a 9 metre long dragon! You’ll have to book your tickets to understand exactly what I’m talking about.

Adriana was mesmerised was beginning to end! She was unafraid despite all the elements to the show which was a massive relief. I wanted her to enjoy it as much as I did.

The closing act brought the dome down with screams of delight and snow! It look liked Arendelle straight out of Frozen. The delight on the children’s faces was tangible as it snowed. “Wow oh wow”, whispered Adriana as she watched with wide eyes as it snowed.

I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t singing throughout the show! I wasn’t the only one, everyone was singing. It’s hard to leave the show without a little more magic in you.
