Why I can’t look like Chrissy Teigen

07/04/2016

Let’s be honest about Chrissy Teigen, she’s one kick-ass, honest AF model. She’s a straight-shooter and speaks her mind about everything.

Her pregnancy has been no different. She’s open about her cravings and her pregnancy symptoms which has been the best anecdote to my own pregnancy. I can totally relate to the bleeding gums and the random comparisons of a baby’s development to fruit.

Chrissy preaches the truth!

Quirky tweets aside, her pregnancy wardrobe is enviable! She’s slaying pregnancy fashion and makes looking like a hot mama-to-be a breeze.

Like many pregnant celebrities before her, I thought that I would easily slay the fashion stakes throughout my own pregnancy.

That was until my stomach popped out and I soon realised that maternity wear in major retailers do not accommodate pregnant women accordingly for us regular mortals.

I realised why I can’t look like Chrissy Teigen…

Instead of offering current trend-worthy clothing of the latest season, there are some fugly looking pieces  that resemble a tent and possess not an ounce of maternity style.

The maternity ranges that are available, are as scarce as accountability in the South African government. Not to mention, the ridiculous prices of maternity wear.

Harsh but it’s the truth!

I thought the days of hiding your pregnant bump was far behind us. However, clothing retailers make it difficult for pregnant women to dress better and accommodate a growing bump.

Pregnancy is embraced beautifully by celebrities and applauded, but is that because their pockets are deep and they have access to the best designers?

Surely pregnancy should be gracefully embraced by all women thus celebrated with maternity wear that makes pregnant women feel good about their growing bumps?

I assumed this was the case until I fell pregnant…

So this is my plea to clothing retailers, pregnancy is not like a lunar eclipse that happens once in a while to a handful of women. There are many, many pregnant women out there who want to look their best during their pregnancy so please make a suitable range where pregnant ladies can channel their inner fashion goddesses.

On that note, please forgo the tent-like pieces as pregnancy does not equate to overweight!

About Me:

Hi I'm Nikita.

Welcome to my corner of the online sphere. A place where we can be honest about mothering while trying to juggle life as working moms. As mothers, we worry about losing our identity, so let's find out together. With eight years of experience as a wordsmith, I'm never at a loss of words but maybe that's my Portuguese heritage coming through.

So proud to be named one of Twinkl's Best Family Bloggers for 2023

My heart swelled at the sight of Adriana’s joy. My heart swelled at the sight of Adriana’s joy.

She feels seen as a girl with T1D.

With her CGM, and insulin pump.

It’s one of the things that we work hard to instil in her, that she is “seen”, loved and that she should never feel embarrassed of her illness.

It’s her superpower to educate others and advocate for T1D.
