DIY: Last Minute Christmas Decor

24/12/2020

Last minute Christmas decor by Nikita Camacho Hearts in her Shoes Mommy Blogger

There’s nothing like a last-minute idea to “zhush” up your Christmas decor, well that’s how it happens to me. I’ll spend time browsing on Pinterest, one pin leads to another idea and then I’m brainstorming things late at night. I wanted a simple Scandi-inspired look for Christmas so I opted for simple black drawings with a dash of gold.

I love outcome of these! I thought it makes the perfect decor or even lovely Christmas decorations for my tree!

This last-minute Christmas decor idea wasn’t as time-consuming as I thought. The longest part was baking my decor as it was my first time trying this and I didn’t want to burn it.

Let’s start at the beginning, shall we?

FLour and salt dough-ingredients

Makes 25 designs

250g of flour

200g of iodized salt

200ml of water

instructions
  1. Put all your ingredients together. Use either a bowl or blender to mix the ingredients together. I use my Thermomix to mix. Last minute Christmas decor by Nikita Camacho Hearts in her Shoes Mommy Blogger
  2. Mix the ingredients well. Knead the dough until it’s smooth and “doughy”. I use the knead function in the Thermomix and then rolled it out.Last minute Christmas decor by Nikita Camacho Hearts in her Shoes Mommy Blogger
  3. If the dough feels sticky, sprinkle some flour on your countertop and roll out your dough. Select the cookie cutters you’d like to use.

  4. Remember if you want to hang your decor, you need to make a hole in the dough before you bake it. We used a straw, which my daughter was only too eager to do.Last minute Christmas decor by Nikita Camacho Hearts in her Shoes Mommy Blogger
  5. Punch the holes in the necessary places and you’re ready to bake. Remember to use a non-stick spray before placing your decor to bake.

  6. I set the oven to 120 degrees Celcius and let it bake for 3 hours. I kept checking to see that I wasn’t burning it.Last minute Christmas decor by Nikita Camacho Hearts in her Shoes Mommy Blogger
  7. I ended up baking two trays. This is what it looked like baked.Last minute Christmas decor by Nikita Camacho Hearts in her Shoes Mommy Blogger
  8. I wanted the decor to be white so I used acrylic paint and painted two layers.

  9. For the designs, I used a “paint” fine tip pen and a gold felt khoki. I do recommend a felt tip which works wonders.Last minute Christmas decor by Nikita Camacho Hearts in her Shoes Mommy Blogger

With this, you really can decide on any designs you’d like to use. It is so versatile too, as gift tags or cute keepsakes!

Happy making and have fun with last minute Christmas decor!

About Me:

Hi I'm Nikita.

Welcome to my corner of the online sphere. A place where we can be honest about mothering while trying to juggle life as working moms. As mothers, we worry about losing our identity, so let's find out together. With eight years of experience as a wordsmith, I'm never at a loss of words but maybe that's my Portuguese heritage coming through.

My heart swelled at the sight of Adriana’s joy. My heart swelled at the sight of Adriana’s joy.

She feels seen as a girl with T1D.

With her CGM, and insulin pump.

It’s one of the things that we work hard to instil in her, that she is “seen”, loved and that she should never feel embarrassed of her illness.

It’s her superpower to educate others and advocate for T1D.
