The alarm clock goes off and you stifle a moan as you rub the sleep out of your eyes. It takes a little more effort to get dressed in the winter chill.
Before you quickly count yourself down to undress and quickly slip into something warmer for the work day ahead, you are stumped as you look at your cupboard.
“I don’t have anything to wear”, you whine to yourself. The hassle of finding something to wear often wastes valuable minutes which leaves you in a huff as you scramble to leave home without spilling your coffee on the way out.
This scenario need not play out every morning, when you have the wardrobe basics to carry you through all the seasons.
With the fundamentals at hand, you can the put together your daily outfit with less groans and minutes spared.
White button up shirt
Never underestimate the power of a white crisp shirt. It looks chic for summer and winter as it can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. It can be worn with skirts, jeans or slacks. The choice is yours.
Blazer
This staple piece is a great way to top off your look, even if you’re wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. I love how a blazer can transform your outfit. It’s an item worth splurging on as it you’ll wear it for years.
Denim shirt
One of my favourite buys is my denim shirt. It pairs well with jeans, skirts, dresses and more. You can easily wear a jersey under it as your layer it for winter or wear the denim shirt under your favourite jumper and leave the collar peeking through.
Black heels
The ideal pair of black heels should easily work with any outfit you wear. Through winter I pair my black heels with tights, or jeans. While in summer it’s also free range with pairing your heels with your favourite outfit.
Cardigan
A simple cardigan or a button up jersey as some people refer it to, is simple fix to an outfit. It’s light and versatile that you can have a variety if you wish. I have about five cardies in my wardrobe.
LBD
The little black dress, ladies it’s the crème de la crème of wardrobes. Wear it smart or casual, you can decide. A simple combination a LBD, a denim shirt and boots will have you ready for your Sunday brunch.
Dark denim
Regardless of the label on your trusty pair of denim jeans, make sure the fit looks amazing on you.
A well fitted pair of jeans will go a long way. Darker denim looks smarter than the lighter hues, so grab a pair or two. You’ll wear it for day-wear or a night out.
Scarf
A girl can never have too many scarves. Choose a lightweight material scarf to start you off. You decide the colour or the print of the scarf. It’s a nice way to accessorise your outfit with a scarf for winter and summer.
With now the basics of your wardrobe done, you can take less time to “um” and “ah” in the mornings. Perhaps sleep in a little more…
