Disney Showcase: Frozen II and more

The Simpsons with Disney? Your eyes are not deceiving you.

The Disney Showcase for 2019/2020 presented their upcoming slate of programming and movies to the media.  The Walt Disney Company continues to grow from strength to strength with their recent takeover of 20th Century Fox, so it’s official, The Simpsons have found a new home. Don’t worry the little yellow family will stay just the way they’re are, 8 fingers and all.

In the meantime, there is much anticipation over Disney + which launches in November 2019. There’s no official date as of when the streaming service will be available to South African audiences.  With the price set at  $7 a month, this service is set to rival Netflix and Apple TV. Disney + will have a wide collection of movies and series under the Walt Disney Company stable including  Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. I anticipate a massive sign-up to Disney + in South Africa.

Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil

“Well, well, well”, the talented Angelina Jolie returns to theatre reprising her role as the devilishly beautiful Maleficent in Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil. The second instalment sees  Michelle Pfeiffer  portraying the role of Queen Ingrith, Prince Phillip’s mother. She’s set to ruffle more than Maleficent’s feathers in this film, by getting in the way between her and a betrothed Aurora. The film premieres in October.

Activate The Global Citizen Movement

Moving to the National Geographic Channel, Activate: The Global Citizen Movement is a six-part documentary focusing on different campaigns including  eradicating poverty by 2030; breaking down barriers to girls’ education; funding education for displaced children; ending plastic pollution; helping to solve the water crisis and ending cash bail.

It stars  numerous celebrities that have joined the movement  including local celebrity Bonang Matheba, Hugh Jackman, Common, Usher, Rachel Brosnahan, Gayle King, Darren Criss, Pharrell Williams, Uzo Aduba, Becky G and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

It airs Sundays at 20:00 on National Geographic channel 181 on DStv.

Disney Junior has the cutest addition to their line-up, T.O.T.S. starting on Monday 16 September at 16:30. The series focuses on the adventures of best friends Pip and Freddy, the only non-stork delivery birds in-training Tiny Ones Transport Service (T.O.T.S.). These junior flyers must take tender care in transferring baby animals – kittens, cubs, calves, bunnies, puppies and joeys among them –  from the  nursery  to their  forever  families.

In 2020, live action movie of the bad-ass Disney princess Mulan will be in cinemas 27 March. When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man from each family will join the imperial army, Mulan steps up to the challenge for her family. Starring actress Liu Yifei, a true warrior princess as she outshone during the production of Mulan with her riding and archery skills.

So the much anticipated sequel to the successful Frozen movie, Frozen II will be in theatres globally over the festive season. The sequel sees Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf on an adventure to find out more about Elsa’s powers. The complete plot of the story is unknown, however I’m sure the adventure will be worth the anticipation.

Here’s to watching Frozen another five hundred times until December.
